Multicultural Advisory Committee
The Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC) meets monthly with police staff to discuss topics important to their communities. The meetings are an opportunity for two-way communication and a way to enhance mutual understanding between police and the community. The MAC works with the Joint Community Police Partnership (JCPP), whose mission is to enhance communication and understanding between law enforcement and multicultural residents of these cities.
I was invited to join the MAC by the JCPP representative after a City Council meeting. After learning more about the MAC and its goals, I decided that I should volunteer and put my skills to use in bringing about positive change and growth in our community. The face of our community is changing, and it is important for diverse voices to be heard, and I am committed to helping people be heard and get involved.
We have recently completed our strategic plan and are implementing the strategic directions that we have created. Our goals include building relationships between the police and the community, helping advance equity in our city, and promoting cultural competence in our police department. This is a 2-3 year plan, and we are in the beginning stages of year 1. But progress is being made, and we are looking forward to future developments!
