Donovan's Door Reviews - Part I

Donovan's Door Reviews - Part I

I bought Donovan's Door directly from Sonni de Soto - I forgot the decision tree that led me to decide to purchase that exact volume, but that decision tree led me to this collection of short stories. As I am not a kinkster (I am quite vanilla, to be honest), a part of me was uncertain how well I would be able to relate to the characters in the individual stories, while another part of me was wondering if this would stir or awaken anything within me. And while I remain vanilla, I find I am loving these stories and am looking forward to reading more.

I review the first 5 stories:

  • One Man’s Treasure

  • Alter Ego

  • Maybe Because

  • Ready to Play

  • Full-Scale Fantasy

GraysMatter Podcast - Season 1, Episode 13

Welcome to Part 2 of my conversion with Sonni de Soto. If you haven’t listened to Part 1, I suggest you listen to it first. Sonni and I had a lot to talk about, and this is starting right where we left off.

So, as longtime listeners may be aware, the usual format of this podcast is for me and two or three of my co-hosts to talk about society and current events from a perspective other than your stereotypical podcaster - that is, not from a cishet white male. But another thing that I’ve been meaning to do is to sit down and talk to fellow POC folx in the geek community about our experiences.

And so with that in mind, today we have a special guest - writer and cosplayer, Sonni de Soto (she/her). You can find Sonni with the following links:

CVG 2018 Day 1 - Part 2

CONvergence 2018 was July 5-8, 2018, 2 months ago now. I had meant to write these posts shortly after CVG ended, but as I’ve explained in previous posts, I have been dealing with broken technology, depression, and other things that have been occupying my time. This year, the theme was “Natural Twenty: Celebrating The First 20 Years Of CONvergence” - for the full archive of all twenty years of CONvergence, click here.

On Thursday the 5th, I attended the following panels: “Deep Space Nine Fan Panel,” “Breaking the Holographic Ceiling: Female Leadership in Star Trek,” “Speculative Biology 101,” “Women in STEM - The Road Not Taken,” “Flirting 101,” and “Misogyny in the Geek Community”. Here is part two of my notes from the panels - I plan on providing my thoughts and analysis of my notes in the near future.
